A Letter From Pastor Chad

Dear Church Body,

In the summer of 2024, due to a generous anonymous donor, we paid off our educational building. Over the last two years, we have worked to repair and improve many different areas within the educational and sanctuary buildings. 

I now would like to encourage the church to start focusing on the needed renovation and restoration of our sanctuary building. The sanctuary was rebuilt in 1982 after a fire. Though there have been small improvements and renovations over the years, we now find ourselves in need of major renovations due to years of use and neglect. These renovations include, but are not limited to, new electrical wiring, new stage walls, new carpet, restored pews, renovated bathrooms, and several energy saving additions. 

Let me be clear: I am not asking the church to go into debt. I don’t think we should go into debt. I am encouraging the church to start focusing on the future. A sanctuary is designed to be a place of worship. When people step inside a sanctuary, they are not stepping into a convention hall or a community center theater. They are in a place that is primarily designed to do what we human beings are primarily created to do: worship. 

For years, we have discussed the sanctuary renovation. My encouragement is that the church body strives for such a goal. I am not what they call a “Kingdom Building Pastor.” I am not a CEO. I am not a salesman. I am not a campaign organizer. I am not a capital fundraiser. And I’m not a very good visionary. I am a simple pastor. All I can do is encourage and point. That is what I am doing here. 

Thus, I am encouraging Cedar Heights Baptist Church to put forth a concerted effort to make a place of worship that will benefit us and our children in the years to come. Additionally, I am encouraging the church to design a place, within financial reason, that communicates to our neighbors and area that we are worshipers of the one true triune God who sent his son Jesus Christ to die for the sins of the world.  

This is not a campaign that can be done overnight. It will take time. But we have to start somewhere. I say we start now. This cannot be done by one person. It will take a community. Together, however, I believe we can produce something that is God-honoring, conducive to worship, and financially wise. 

At our members’ meeting this coming Sunday evening, August 16, the deacon body will propose a team to focus on such a plan.
