In 2022, a near-mint 1952 Mickey Mantle baseball card was sold at auction for $12.8 million. What’s even harder to imagine is that there are versions of the same card that are in even more perfect condition. If ever sold, it’s believed they would cost more than $30 million! Can you believe there are people who would be excited to pay that price for a baseball card?
Jesus noticed that people spend a lot of time and energy worrying about possessions. We often think that stuff will make life better or make us more happy. But earthly treasures can never give our lives real security or satisfaction.
For this reason, Jesus encouraged His followers to invest in eternal treasures of His kingdom. He told them not to worry about food, clothes, or money, because God knows what we need and takes care of us—just like He cares for the birds and flowers.
Instead of storing up more and more for ourselves, Jesus invited people to be generous, trust Him, and focus on what lasts forever. True security and joy come from following Him, not from collecting things that can be lost or destroyed.
When we put our hearts into following Jesus and sharing His love with others, we are storing up treasures that never fade. The greatest gift we can receive—and give—is the forgiveness, hope, and eternal life He offers through His death and resurrection.
Jesus taught people to seek God's kingdom because knowing God is the greatest treasure. When people trust in Jesus, they are welcomed into God's kingdom and can trust that God will provide for all their needs.
Pray: Jesus, thank You that You are more valuable than anything we could own. Help us trust You, not worry about stuff, and use what we have to love others and honor You. Amen.

Family Prayer
Mornings: Take a moment to thank God that He gives you everything you need and that your true treasure is found in Him. Ask Him to help you focus on His kingdom and not be distracted by money, toys, or other possessions.
Evenings: Thank God for the ways He has provided for you, protected you, and blessed you. Thank Him for His love, care, and the eternal treasures He offers through Jesus. Praise Him for being more valuable than anything on earth.
Family Activities
For Fun: Create a treasure hunt by hiding small prizes, candy, or coupons for special treats around your house. Give each family member time to search and find the hidden treasures. Make it extra fun by giving hints or clues to find each prize or set a timer to see who can find the most treasures. After the hunt, gather together to enjoy the treats and talk about how the excitement of finding hidden treasures reminds us of what Jesus said about His kingdom: that storing up treasures in God’s kingdom—through trusting Him, loving others, and following His ways—brings true and lasting joy that never fades.
To Serve: Decide as a family who you want to bless—neighbors in need, a local food pantry, a homeless shelter, or the children’s ministry at your church. Plan a fun fundraiser to sell cookies, lemonade, bracelets, or other homemade items to raise money for the chosen cause. Involve everyone in the process, from baking or decorating, to handing out the treats. Afterwards, talk about ways your family can continue to use your time, talents, and resources to bless others just as Jesus taught and how giving in this way brings lasting joy.
